Spelling Bee Kit

Reglas para un Spelling Bee

If you are hosting a Spelling bee as a class or school activity is important to have some Rules. Please find below the ones we use.

1. The pronouncer announces the word to be spelled. The word will be pronounced slowly and clearly, without distorting the normal pronunciation of the word.

2. The speller listens carefully to the pronouncer and asks for the word to be repeated if necessary. Other questions permitted are:

a. Can you please repeat the word?
b. May I have the definition?
c. Can I have all the information, please?
d. Can you repeat the available pronunciations?
e. Can I have an example sentence please?

3. When the speller is sure he/she understands the word, he/she pronounces it, spells it, and then says the word again. He/She must say it loudly enough for the judge to hear it. Remember you have to pronounce the word, spell it, and pronounce it again. For example C- A - T:

a. You have to say CAT : ci - ei - ti; CAT

4. You will have 2 minutes to spell or ask.

5. The judge(s) determines whether or not the word was spelled correctly.

6. If the correct spelling is given, the speller remains in the game.

7. If the spelling is incorrect, that speller is eliminated from the game. The judge gives the correct spelling of that word. Then the pronouncer reads a new word to the next student.

8. When there are only two spellers left, if one player misspells a word, the other player must spell that word correctly, plus one more word to be declared the winner of the spelling bee.
